Performing Arts Degree Programs

In addition to the in-depth exploration of specialized skills, our Performing Arts degree programs include a liberal arts core curriculum that is predicated on a breath of knowledge that all educated artists should possess.

Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Theatre Design
This program offers a well-rounded curriculum in theatre design and technology. The degree is designed to provide students with an opportunity to combine theatre training with another arts discipline as either a double major or minor. The program promotes critical thinking, communication, and technical and creative skills in the field of theatre design.

Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Theatre Performance
Santa Fe University of Art and Design’s (BA) in Theatre Performance program provides a strong foundation for the craft by exploring all facets of stage production. Students can start honing their skills immediately; all students audition for mainstage productions upon arrival in their freshman year. Opportunities to audition for roles in studio shows, student films, recitals, and other events are also available to all students.


Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) In Theatre
For all of the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) options below, students intern with professional theatre companies and are eligible to spend a semester in London or New York City.

Specialization in Acting
This degree helps prepare students for graduate study and careers as actors. The major focuses on acting methods, techniques, and styles. It includes courses in voice, movement, auditioning, scene study, text analysis, theatre history, and acting for film and television. This is an intensive, performance-oriented major. In-depth work is accomplished in all course areas in the classroom and in mainstage and studio productions.

Specialization in Dance
This degree is designed for students interested in pursuing a career in Commercial Dance. Our carefully designed curriculum emphasizes strong training in several forms of dance technique including ballet, jazz, musical theatre dance, modern, and hip hop. This specialization is designed to prepare students for future employment. In addition to several performance opportunities within the Department each semester, students receive training in technical theatre where they hone their skills in costuming, lighting, set design, sound design, and stage management, and will take acting and singing courses to round out the program to create a versatile performer.

Specialization in Design /Technical
This degree helps prepare students for careers as theatre designers and technicians, and it offers specializations in scene design, lighting design, costume design, and stage management. Design/technical majors take a foundation core of courses in a variety of production areas, then select an area of concentration. In-depth work in the area of concentration is accomplished in the classroom and in mainstage and studio productions.

Specialization in Music Theatre
This is a multidisciplinary degree in performance, requiring proficiencies in acting, singing, and dance. The major is closely linked to the acting paradigm during the first two years and then moves into intensive courses in music, musical theatre acting, singing, and dance. This is an intensive, performance-oriented major includes private voice lessons, voice and movement for the stage, audition training, scene study, and dance (tap, jazz, modern, and ballet). In-depth work is accomplished in all areas in the classroom and in mainstage.
