Students pursuing a BFA in Digital Arts gain a solid foundation in research and critical thinking, and build upon that with highly focused courses. As students advance into their areas, they explore visual composition and timeless principles in storytelling with sophisticated technology.

Upon graduation, students will have learned how to:
  • Develop artistic perspective and the ability to critically evaluate personal work and the work of others
  • Develop and apply written, visual, and audio communication skills for digital arts projects and practices
  • Recognize, understand, and translate diverse cultural perspectives in all areas of digital arts
  • Understand and adapt to changing digital arts technologies and develop proficiency in digital media software applications for the arts
  • Express a personal artistic vision in the development of digital artworks using evolved creative strategies

Areas of Emphasis

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Arts program offers three areas of emphasis:

Animation
How do you bring a virtual object to life? It takes a strong grounding in form and motion, storytelling, and animation techniques. Students create believable characters and textured scenes for a variety of media and environments.

Students exploring animation could pursue the following career options:
  • Character animation
  • 2-D and 3-D modeling
  • Digital film, video, and commercial production
  • Special visual effects
  • Technical direction

Digital Illustration
Concentration on technique and the development of a distinctive personal style are the hallmarks of the digital illustration focus. Interpretations of illustration principles as applied to the digital world emerge as students transform original artwork into a variety of digital media presentations.

Digital Illustration students could pursue the following career options:
  • Storyboard art
  • Multimedia design
  • Digital illustration for various media
  • Digital art direction
  • Concept art

Web Publishing
Electronic publications, social media, video, mobile technology platforms and other online forums rely on digital artists to make them useful, informative, and engaging. Students explore these environments as well as learning the principles of non-fiction writing relative to the ever-changing ways we communicate visually.

Students in the web publishing specialization could pursue the following career options:
