Portfolio
Students applying for acceptance into the Creative Writing and Literature Department are required to submit a portfolio with 10-12 pages (maximum) of the student’s best writing. The writing genres can include poetry, fiction, creative/personal essay, play or screenplay. Students may submit one genre or a mix of genres not exceeding 12 pages total. All portfolios must include a cover sheet presenting:
- Contact information: name, address, email, phone number
- The first page of the portfolio (after the cover sheet) must present a brief (1-2 pages) summation of their writing experience, addressing these questions: How long have you written? What kinds of writing do you like to do? What do you like about the genres you write in (poetry, plays, stories, journaling, etc)? What writing classes (if any) have you taken? Name on or two favorite writers and briefly discuss what you like about their work.
- The portfolio must be typed, double-spaced, paginated and have the student’s name on each page.
All departments would prefer submissions of digital files when possible, but students are welcome to bring work to our on-campus Portfolio Review Days.
