Creative Writing Bachelor of Arts (BA) Program
Creative Writing and Literature is a rigorous bachelor's program built on a Master of Fine Arts model. Students choose two genre specializations to study—from poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and screenwriting. In addition, they take at least seven workshop courses in their chosen areas. The liberal arts core curriculum is predicated on a breadth of knowledge that all educated writers should possess.
Student critiques on original work—both giving and receiving them—are an essential component of this program. Ample requirements in literature and other specialized writing courses provide a foundation in historical context and critical thinking.
Seniors take two courses to round out their creative writing degree:
- The Writer in the World, an interdisciplinary special topics course that examines the role of the writer in the world.
- Senior Reading, in which students assemble a book-length portfolio of original work and present a public reading.
