The Art Department challenges aspiring artists to develop a rigorous, inquisitive, and sustainable art practice.
At the heart of a successful work of art are relationships—of form to content, idea to image, parts to whole, process to presentation. These relationships allow a connection to pass along an idea, feeling, experience—and a gap—for something new to occur. Within these relationships lies the space for dynamic expression.
At Santa Fe University of Art and Design, we create that space for every student, every day. Expect your peers to support and challenge you. Expect your faculty members to be working artists who are passionate about teaching and keenly interested in your artistic development. Expect the phenomenal art community and institutions of Santa Fe (including SITE Santa Fe, the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, and the Santa Fe Art Institute) to inspire you.
Our Art Department challenges aspiring artists to develop a rigorous, inquisitive, and sustainable art practice that's anchored in specific skills within a disciplinary context, expanded by interdisciplinary ideas, and individualized through the mentorship of each student’s passions and capacities.
You also have practical opportunities for internships with locally and internationally respected arts institutions—providing a unique perspective and real-world job skills for a career in the arts.
