Santa Fe, N.M.—December 8, 2011—Santa Fe University of Art and Design alumna Harmony McGivney (BFA in Acting, ’11) was nominated by the 2011 BroadwayWorld Connecticut Awards as Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her role in Cinderella Skeleton, the Musical. BroadwayWorld is a website devoted to theatre across the globe.

“My role in Cinderella Skeleton is my professional debut, so to be nominated for this award for my first performance is an incredible honor,” said McGivney. “The skills I learned and career advice I received from faculty in the Performing Arts program helped me get to where I am today. I was pushed in the classroom to take risks and extend my abilities as an actor. I truly feel that the BFA in Acting fully prepared me for my career.”

McGivney sang at SFUAD’s graduation ceremony in May 2011. “It was one of the most gratifying experiences I’ve ever had,” she recalled. “I felt so proud and accomplished to be able to sing on the Greer Garson stage one last time.”

McGivney is auditioning in the tri-state area (New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut) for the summer stock season. “My goal is to continue to work professionally and to travel around the country performing in regional theatres,” she said.

To current students in the Performing Arts Department, McGivney offered the advice, “Study hard. The more time you spend working on your craft and finding the right monologues, songs, and scenes, the bigger the reward you will see. Faculty are your ultimate resource; they are there to help you become the best you can be, so make the most of it. Take risks on the stage and own your individuality.”

Santa Fe University’s Performing Arts Department offers programs in theatre, theatre design and performance. The program is based in the Greer Garson Theatre Center, a magnificent venue with complete facilities for the Performing Arts programs and professional theatrical productions. The venue was named for Greer Garson, Academy Award–winning actress and close friend of the school.
