New TV Series on A&E to Be Filmed at SFUAD’s Garson Studios

Santa Fe, N.M.—February 23, 2012—A new television series began filming at Santa Fe University of Art and Design’s Garson Studios Feb. 13, continuing the studios’ legacy as a magnet for TV and movie productions in northern New Mexico. Based on a series of mystery novels by bestselling author Craig Johnson, Longmire stars Robert Taylor as Wyoming Sheriff Walt Longmire, a recently widowed man who hides his pain behind wit and bravery. Katee Sackhoff plays Deputy Vic, the sheriff’s young, attractive sidekick. Longmire also features Lou Diamond Phillips, Bailey Chase, Cassidy Freeman and Adam Bartley. Ten segments will be shot at Garson and in locations around northern New Mexico. The show is produced by Warner Horizon Television and will air on the A&E Network.
“We are looking forward to filming in and around Santa Fe. Garson Studios at Santa Fe University of Art and Design served as our launching pad for the pilot, and we’re excited to be returning,” said Chris Donahue, Longmire’s Oscar- and Emmy-winning producer. “Paula Amanda, director of Garson Studios, understands and anticipates the needs of a production and has led the university in getting involved and behind the show.”
During the past decade, Garson Studios has hosted the production of more than 30 professional films, which have collectively earned over 20 Academy Award nominations. Movies made at Garson have ranged from No Country for Old Men to Haywire and City Slickers and have starred celebrated actors such as Jeff Bridges in True Grit, Natalie Portman in Brothers, and Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig in Cowboys & Aliens.
“Garson Studios is an artistic and economic powerhouse, garnering jobs for the state of New Mexico, including jobs for film professionals and hotel and restaurant workers,” said Garson director Paula Amanda. “We are continually upgrading our facilities and have just expanded our office spaces to improve upon our already stellar reputation in our state and in the film and television production industry.”
Garson Studios (www.garsonstudios.com) was created in 1989 by film legend Greer Garson to answer the growing demand for state-of-the-art working soundstages in New Mexico. The studio includes three stages, at 14,000, 7,500, and 2,800 square feet. Students from the university’s Moving Image Arts Department intern on film projects at the studios.
