Santa Fe, N.M.—August 01, 2012—The Photography Department at Santa Fe University of Art and Design (SFUAD) announced that it has partnered with the International Symposium on Electronic Art (ISEA) 2012 to host an exhibition at the Anne and John Marion Center for Photographic Arts.

The theme for this year’s ISEA, “Machine Wilderness,” references the New Mexico region as an area of rapid growth and technology alongside wide expanses of open land; it aims to present artists’ and technologists’ ideas for a more humane interaction between technology and wilderness. The initiative involves an expansive, regional collaboration throughout fall 2012 that includes art exhibitions, public events, performances and educational activities that inspire a discourse of global proportions on the subjects of art, technology and nature.
In its partnership with ISEA, the university will host Origins, which will feature the work of nine artists who work with pinhole cameras and alternative photographic processes, exploring the historic intersections between art and science. Origins is curated by Mary Anne Redding, chair of the Photography Department, and David Scheinbaum, SFUAD’s director of photography and artist in residence.
Origins will open in the Marion Center’s Atrium Gallery, while a second show featuring the work of local photographer and alumnus Michael Webb (’00) will simultaneously open in the Marion Center’s Alumni Gallery. Throughout his career, Webb has served as an inspirational leader in arts education and has supported youth art organizations in Santa Fe and around the United States.
“Both exhibitions will provide visitors with the opportunity to see early or ‘alternative’ photographic processes employed by contemporary artists in the newly renovated Marion Center,” said Redding.
