About the Vacation English Immersion Program

Welcome to Santa Fe! The Vacation English Immersion at Santa Fe University of Art and Design (SFUAD) is an exceptional opportunity for university students and professionals to improve their English language skills in one of the most unique and picturesque cities in the U.S. With numerous galleries, museums, restaurants and shops, Santa Fe offers all of the luxuries of a big city while maintaining its southwest charm. The SFUAD campus is ideally located within walking distance of many stores and restaurants, and a quick bus trip to the historic downtown district.

Based on the educational philosophy of learning-by-doing, the Vacation English Immersion supports participants in improving their English language skills with an interactive, student-centered approach. The Vacation English Immersion is holistically designed so that participants get the full benefit of language learning opportunities while enjoying their time in Santa Fe. For a true immersion experience, participants attend communicative English Classes and Culture & Communication Workshops, as well as Extracurricular Activities.

Minimum Age Requirement: Participants must be at least 18 years old to attend the Vacation English Immersion.

English Classes

In the English classes, participants focus on developing their communicative English language skills in a comfortable classroom environment. Participants are grouped according to their proficiency level and work with highly trained, experienced language instructors who love to teach. Participants receive approximately 15 hours a week of communicative English language instruction.  Participants actively learn through hands-on activities like scavenger hunts, role-plays and video projects. By engaging in fun and interesting language learning activities, participants see their language skills improving from the first day of class!

Culture & Communication Workshops

In the Culture & Communication Workshops, participants learn about and experience a variety of cultural traditions and themes. Through guest speakers, field trips and active lessons, participants not only use their English language skills, but also expand their intercultural understanding and competency. Popular topics include: Native American Traditions, Sports, Jewelry Making, Ethnic Food, Yoga, Film.

Extracurricular Activities

Extracurricular activities provide an additional opportunity to improve English language skills and lear about U.S. culture. Vacation English Immersion students are part of the SFUAD campus community and are encouraged to participate in university events and activities. Some popular events may include: art exhibits, movie nights, concerts, sports, and day trips. Students have ample free time in the evenings and on the weekends to take advantage of the SFUAD sponsored activities as well as explore Santa Fe on their own.
