Santa Fe, NM—September 2, 2010—Santa Fe University of Art and Design has launched a new website— santafeuniversity.edu—that highlights the creative spirit and work of its students and faculty members. The website also features information about the university’s interdisciplinary degree programs, campus life and alumni successes.
“The site reflects the energy in every one of the university’s seven fine art departments,” said Santa Fe University of Art and Design President John S. Gordon, an exhibiting sculptor and art educator for 30 years. “I am particularly excited about the focus on students throughout the site, showcasing their creations around the world, whether they are painters, filmmakers, writers, musicians, graphic designers, performers or photographers.”
The new site also incorporates the university’s new name and logo. With the start of the new school year, the university, formerly known as the College of Santa Fe, has now officially changed its name to Santa Fe University of Art and Design. “The name better aligns with our mission, vision and connection to Santa Fe,” said Gordon. “At the same time, it recognizes and upholds the reputation of the university and its students, alumni, faculty and staff.”
This fall term the school also welcomes Academy Award-nominated cinematographer Harry Mathias, who will chair the Moving Image Arts Department. Other new full-time faculty members include Porochista Khakpour and Emily Rapp in the Creative Writing and Literature Department, both of whom are internationally recognized authors; director Jon Jory and costume designer Marcia Dixcy Jory in the Performing Arts Department, well-known theatre performers who bring more than 60 years of combined experience and professional acclaim; and J. Stephen Lee in the Graphic Design Department, whose previous experience includes designing for Nike and teaching at Dartmouth College. Also, Steven Paxton returns to the university to serve as chair of the Contemporary Music program.
The university is also excited to have more than 80 international students from Mexico and Spain spending one semester at the school. These students are currently pursuing degrees in communications, marketing, graphic design and architecture at Universidad del Valle de Mexico (UVM), Mexico’s largest private university, and Universidad Europea de Madrid (UEM). They have chosen Santa Fe University of Art and Design to enrich their academic experience. The university expects a continuous flow of students from various countries around the world in the upcoming semesters.
